Why does my dream car have to be so expensive used?

So I am actually set to inherit a decent amount of money and would like to trade in my car (2014 Mustang GT) for more of a serious sports car. I was thinking that Elise’s are reasonable on the used market. How about a Lotus Evora S? NOPE.

There are multiple reasons I like this car, one is that it has a Toyota engine. A friend of mine had to get a new engine for his Cayman and it was INSANE. I could have the V6 in this car built with all forged internals for what he paid.

For what this car goes for I feel like I could buy the new 2.0l turbo cayman. (not the 2.5l cayman s)

Corvettes are not my thing unfortunately. I really wish they were at this point....

My mustang is like 3800lbs, is large and bulky, and an amazing daily. I want a ~3000lbs sports car with 300-400hp that is relatively new. Funny enough if the Alfa Giulia’s internet stats are not lies (3300lbs 4 door car) if it had like 350hp I would jump on it if it wasn’t obscene expensive.

Why not slap a supercharger on a used BRZ? Alternatively, why not do a 2ZZ and supercharger swap on an SW30 for a baby-Lotus?

Buy a Camry and drive it backwards. Same experience right?

What about a 370Z?

Kinja'd!!!

Slightly over 3,000lbs (~3,300) with 332hp.

Significantly cheaper and roughly meets your requirements.

Is this going to be mainly just a road going sports car, or with it be used for stuff like autox and/or HPDE too?

Except the Camry is more comfortable.

The BRZ thing I have put serious thought into several times. I have done some research into it and the edelbrock supercharger has an amazing torque curve with wide even power that I think would be great in a car. That is a possible end result of this. One thing is I would LIKE to do street tire class autocross with the car I buy and a supercharger would put me right out of that. However it’s not a requirement I honestly don’t care about being competative in that but the THOUGHT of being able to be sways me a bit. Having a 2nd car for that is out of the question because any 2rd or “third” car I would buy would be a JDM import that is banned anyways lol.

The MR2 is too small. Like if I didn’t need the car as a DD I would have already concluded getting an Elise. Where I work there have been two people with an Elise and at autocross SW30s are actually common and it would be great for a 2nd car but I just can’t see getting groceries with it. Like the Evora actually has decent space to be usable as a daily.

I was gonna suggest the FI route on a Toyobaru too, but opted for the suggestion of a 370Z. Both I think would be great options. Or a used Cayman

I actually like the 370Z.

For HPDE I am going to be using my project car, for autocross I would like to use a car I can use in the street classes. The 370Z’s faults with cooling actually wouldn’t hit in autocross i’m guessing so it is a good option.

One thing with the 370z is I am constantly feeling that Nissan is going to announce it’s replacement soon. Like if I bought this then they say “ok next Z car is going to be 3.0L twin turbo v6" and it is around ~$35k I would be smacking my head on the wall lol.

Whats funny as it comes to comfort in cars and interiors I would be fine in an 80s car with hard plastic all around me and seats with bolstering like a bench at Wrigley field lol.

If you’re looking for a daily driver that’s also competitive in street class, what about a C5 Z06? They’re pretty killer in AS, plenty cheap, and weight about the same as a 370Z. haha

I can see the worry about a company replacing the current model with a new one, but considering how boring Nissan has been lately (killing the iDX and all) idk that I’d be holding your breath. lol

I had no idea the Evora had a back seat. I thought it was closer to the Elise in practicality which is why I suggested the SW30. AW11 import? Better shape and cheaper than a good one here, and absolutely amazing. Surprisingly practical too. The frunk is large, it has a trunk as well, and there’s a ton of space behind the seats. I keep my spare behind the passenger seat instead of in the frunk.

Well the Z car is one where they always show a GLIMMER of hope before shattering it. Like the 240Z they were showing around 1999 that was the size of the original S30 with a turbo 4 from a Silvia in it. Now they are CLAIMING the next car will be downsized and probably with the 3.0l turbo they are putting on infinitis.

My opinion of what is going to happen is they will but the 3.0l twin in it. However the downsizing will end up being not true, it will be a 3400lb car, and it will cost more.

I think the chance of it being turbo is high. Their new V6 seems to be in their RWD cars turboed on the regular.

If Alfa announced today a new GTV6 I would be set on getting one. I already have an 80s project car, this was in the running when I was shopping for a project. I just couldn’t find a quality item at the time and then settled on importing a R32 Skyline GTS-T which gives me most of what this alfa would.

There are RUMORS that the new Giulia in the US might have a 350hp 4 cylinder. The car is like 3300lbs. It’s a 4 door so more like the Milano but if they REALLY are going to deliver that I will consider it despite my wanting a coupe.

The ideal car i’m looking for would be 300-400hp, be 3000lbs or less, and handle like a sports car SHOULD so long as a sport sedan or whatever has that feeling I would consider it. That doesn’t really exist in my price range in a newer vehicle. The closest are cars like the old 135i, this rumored Giulia, the Evora S, 370z, modded BRZ, and cars like that. Others like a new Cayman are just out of my league, I COULD afford it with the money i’m getting but I would feel bad spending that much.

If I could do two 80s cars and daily both in tandum I would love a GTV6. I would feel bad dailying that Alfa I would want to preserve it. I put a lot of miles on. My 2014 mustang has near 50,000.

Oopps this isn’t even close to the price range you mentioned, sorry. I think you can have a DB9 for the price you seek (of course, get the bumper-to-bumper carmax warranty).

I made the Obama not bad face while looking at a list of them. I looked at a list of 30 cars and only ONE had a manual and I was like WTF? And it was the same price as these evoras. Had no idea they would be around that. Thanks for the suggestion lol
